The broad-band X-ray spectrum of the Cas A supernova remnant as seen by the BeppoSAX observatory

چکیده
We present a broad band X-ray observation of the Cas A supernova remnant, obtained with the 4 narrow field instruments on board the BeppoSAX satellite. The X-ray spectrum thus obtained spans more than two decades in energy, from ≃ 0.5 to ≃ 80 keV. The complete spectrum is fit with a two-component non-equilibrium ionization (NEI) model plus a power-law component which dominates at the higher energies. The influence of the hard X-ray tail on the parameters derived for the thermal emission is discussed.

We report on highlight results on celestial sources observed in the high energy band (> 20 keV) with BeppoSAX . In particular we review the spectral properties of sources that belong to different classes of objects, i.e., stellar coronae (Algol), supernova remnants (Cas A), low mass X–ray binaries (Cygnus X–2 and the X–ray burster GS1826–238), black hole candidates (Cygnus X–1) and Active Galac...
متن کاملCharacterizing the Non-thermal Emission of Cas A
We report on our analysis of the 1 Ms Chandra observation of the supernova remnant Cas A in order to localize, characterize and quantify its non-thermal X-ray emission. More specifically, we investigated whether the X-ray synchrotron emission from the inside of the remnant is from the outward shock, but projected toward the inner ring, or from the inner shell. We tackle this problem by employin...
متن کاملChandra Detection of the Forward and Reverse Shocks in Cassiopeia A
We report the localization of the forward and reversed shock fronts in the young supernova remnant Cas A using X-ray data obtained with the Chandra Observatory. High resolution X-ray maps resolve a previously unseen X-ray feature encompassing the extremity of the remnant. This feature consists of thin, tangential wisps of emission bordering the outer edge of the thermal X-ray and radio remnant,...

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We present a BeppoSAX observation of the X–ray source AX J0851.9−4617.4 that has been proposed as the neutron star associated to the shell like-supernova remnant RX J0852.0−4622. The image at E>5 keV shows the presence of a new source, SAX J0852.0−4615 , not resolved from AX J0851.9−4617.4 in previous observations. The improved positional accuracy obtained for...
متن کاملX-ray emission from the galactic center region supernova remnant G0.9+0.1
We report the results of a BeppoSAX observation of the composite supernova remnant G0.9+0.1, located in the Galactic Center region. This new observation, in which the core of G0.9+0.1 is observed on–axis, confirms our previous results obtained from a pointing in which the supernova remnant was serendipitously observed at a large off–axis angle. The better quality of the new data allows us to co...
